Lake Park Community High School District 108 students suspended 195 times in a single school year

Lake Park Community High School District 108 reported 195 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

The district transferred three students to another program instead of suspending or expelling them.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 195 students during the year. That equates to 7.4 percent of the 2,623 students enrolled.

Of the 109 in-school suspensions, 83 were given to boys and 26 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 89 incidents. There were 12 incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 102 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 86 out-of-school suspensions, 62 were given to boys and 24 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 45 incidents. There were 32 incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 31 incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.
