Indian Prairie Community Unit School District 204 students suspended 1,929 times in a single school year

Indian Prairie Community Unit School District 204 reported 1,929 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

The district transferred one students to another program instead of suspending or expelling them.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 1,929 students during the year. That equates to 6.9 percent of the 27,899 students enrolled.

Of the 1,413 in-school suspensions, 1,048 were given to boys and 365 were given to girls, including 513 elementary or middle schoolers and 900 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 1,009 incidents. There were 312 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 1,280 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 516 out-of-school suspensions, 394 were given to boys and 122 were given to girls, including 199 elementary or middle schoolers and 317 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes 206 incidents. There were 206 incidents of unspecified reasons. For 264 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
