CITY OF WHEATON: Road Closures: Temporary Stop Signs on West Street

Stopsign 1000x667

City of Wheaton issued the following announcement on Aug. 10.

On Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, Landmark Contractors will be turning off the traffic signals at the intersections of West Street & Front Street and West Street & Liberty Drive in order to replace the traffic signal system on Front Street. During this time, both intersections will be temporarily controlled by stop signs, similar to the temporary traffic control at Main & Front and Main & Liberty.

The temporary stop signs will be in place for approximately 6-8 weeks to allow contractors to complete the signal work.

Please note that the traffic pattern will be altered slightly to keep traffic moving. Northbound traffic traveling across the tracks on West Street will not have a stop sign at Front Street to prevent traffic backups onto the train tracks. In addition, southbound traffic traveling across the tracks on West Street will not have a stop sign at Liberty Drive. Signs will notify drivers at this intersection which lanes of traffic do not stop.

At the train tracks, traffic in both directions will have a stop sign before the tracks along with signs stating "do not stop on tracks," but then will continue free-flow through the intersections to avoid queues on the tracks. The City reminds motorists to never stop on the train tracks.
