City of West Chicago issued the following announcement on Aug. 13.
As part of the City of West Chicago’s Sanitary Sewer Maintenance Program, smoke testing of sanitary sewers will start Monday, August 13, 2018. Smoke testing allows us to locate leaking and faulty sewers and identify nePublic Works Projectseded repairs to the sanitary collection system. Testing hours will be from 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM and will continue for approximately 3-4 days (weather pending). The general boundary for this year’s program will be Augusta Avenue north to Brown Street and from Weyrauch Street east to Neltnor Boulevard. A map of the testing area can be found here.
Residents who may be impacted by the smoke testing have been mailed prior notification. During the testing residents can expect to see some smoke coming out of their sewer roof vents during the test. The smoke is non-toxic, non-staining, and free of oil and colored particles. The smoke creates no fire hazard. Prior to the date of the scheduled testing, impacted residents should pour water down ALL drains in their home or building to ensure the drain traps are full.
If you have any questions, please contact Utility Superintendent Rocky Horvath at (630)293-2255 Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Or via email at [email protected].
