City of Naperville issued the following announcement on June 29.
Pending weather or unforeseen circumstances, construction on improvements to the upper and lower levels of the Municipal Center Parking Deck will begin the week of July 9. This project is the second phase of a five-year effort to improve the Municipal Center Parking Deck and surrounding areas.
Work on the deck is scheduled to be complete by the end of August. Construction will take place in phases, with one entrance to each level of the deck being maintained at all times. No more than half of the parking spaces on the upper level of the deck will be removed from service at any one time. Although accessible parking spaces may need to be temporarily relocated, the same number of spaces will be maintained, with a goal of keeping these spaces on the upper level of the deck.
The Municipal Center parking deck is almost 30 years old, and no significant updates or construction efforts have taken place since 1997. After two decades, certain components are reaching the end of their useful life. Work includes concrete patching on the upper level, replacing sidewalk, reconstructing planter boxes, replacing hand rails on staircases, replacing trench drains near both drive aisle entrances and re-constructing the ramp and sidewalk on the left side first floor entrance of the building for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility. Patching work on the ceiling of the lower level will also occur.
Although all efforts will be made to keep as many parking spaces available as possible during construction, visitors to the Municipal Center are reminded they can utilize the publicly available parking spaces in the Water Street Parking Deck across from the Municipal Center at any time. Motorists accessing the deck are asked to please follow all traffic control devices that will be put in place.
