Itasca FPD responds to 34 fires in 2017

Itasca Fire Protection District responded to 145 calls in 2017 - 41.1 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Itasca included 34 fires - 19 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and seven other fires.

In all, the department saw $417,950 in fire loss - or about $12,293 per fire.

The department also received 111 false calls, including two malicious calls and 109 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Itasca Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $4,980,980 in 2017.

The Itasca FPD #1 Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 26 active employees and eight retired or inactive employees, was $304,313 in debt as of May 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $6,086 for every fire in 2016.
