Naperville FD responds to 227 fires in 2017

Naperville Fire Department responded to 2885 calls in 2017 - 7.8 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Naperville included 227 fires - 93 structure fires, 29 vehicle fires and 105 other fires. The fire department also responded to seven calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $4,793,933 in fire loss - or about $21,119 per fire.

The department also received 2651 false calls, including 62 malicious calls and 2589 other false calls.

The calls resulted in three civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Naperville Fire Department had an annual budget of $1,195,783 in 2017.

The Naperville Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 187 active employees and 107 retired or inactive employees, was $5,434,112 positive as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $27,035 for every fire in 2016.
