Sen. Michael Connelly (R-Naperville) had a few words for Loyola University Chicago men's basketball coach Porter Moser.
At the May 9 Senate Floor debate, Connelly congratulated the coach and Ramblers for the team’s dedication and drive that gave the No. 11 seed a berth in the NCAA Final Four in March.
“I am the son of a Loyola graduate, I am a Loyola graduate and I am a dad of a Loyola graduate,” Connelly said.

Naperville is incredibly proud of Moser, according to Connelly, who noted he recently saw Moser’s brother Matt, who he played against years ago at Bennett Academy.
“We were kind of chuckling about how far you came and we couldn’t be more proud,” Connelly said.
However, in all the hype, Connelly said former Loyola President Father Michael Garanzini was not credited as he should have been, so he made sure he gave him the accolades he deserved for believing in the team.
“He kept telling me, it’s coming, it’s coming,” Connelly said of the Ramblers eventual run in the Final Four.
