Terry Coughlin has been named the new boys' basketball coach at Lake Zurich High School.

Coughlin succeeds Billy Pitcher, who was recently installed as the new coach at Lake Park. Coughlin’s hire is expected to become official once ratified by the school board later this month.

A graduate of New Trier High School, Coughlin has served as assistant boys’ basketball coach at the Winnetka school for the last 11 years. He has also been an assistant volleyball coach since 2014.

"We are incredibly thrilled to welcome Terence Coughlin, his wife Melissa and their children, Caleb and Kaiden, to the Lake Zurich High School athletic family," Andrew Lambert, Lake Zurich athletic director, said in a statement. "Our goal was not only to find the best basketball coach but also a person who would uphold the values of District 95. Throughout our exhaustive search process, Coach Coughlin's name came up continuously as a rising star in the coaching profession."

Coughlin attended college at Augustana and at Northeastern University in Chicago.

"Whether it is in the classroom, the community or on the field, Terry has truly been successful at every step of his journey," Lambert added. "He is the perfect fit to deliver a world-class experience academically, socially and athletically to our students."
