The Illinois State Rifle Association is now encouraging members to attend state Sen. John Curran's town hall meeting on June 7 as a way of expressing their opposition to him and state Rep. David Olsen for voting in favor of an anti-gun bill.
The change in plans comes after ISRA organizers initially encouraged members to be on hand in Downers Grove on Saturday “to defend your gun rights” at an anti-gun event that it insisted was disguised as a children’s safety fair.
“We now believe a better venue and a better use of your time would be to attend Sen. Curran's town hall meeting on June 7,” ISRA officials said in a press release. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Darien.
ISRA organizers have accused both Curran (R-Downers Grove) and Olsen (R-Downers Grove) of misleading voters about where they stand on gun rights and the Second Amendment. The ISRA says that both of them instantly changed positions and more closely align themselves with House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) once they had been elected to Springfield, including voting in favor of SB 337.
“Plan to vigorously defend your gun rights when speaking to Curran, Olsen and the media,” ISRA organizers added in the release. “Let them know that gun owners resent being mislead. Be sure to ask Curran and Olsen what Mike Madigan handed them in exchange for turning their backs on lawful gun owners.”
