Rep. Patricia Bellock (R-Hinsdale) pointed out a special constituent in the balcony above her at the May 21 House floor debate.

“Her name is Erin Compton, and she has visited us before,” Bellock said of the daughter of Wesmont police Sgt. Greg Compton and wife, Diane.

Compton, 2015 Miss Amazing and Special Olympics gold medalist for rhythmic gymnastics, is also a horseback rider, Bellock said.

“She will be competing again this year in the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics,” she added.

But that is just the half of it, according to Bellock, who noted Compton and her family are members of Partners in Policymaking, which is a leadership-training program designed for parents of school-age children and adults who are developmentally disabled.

“These partners teach leadership skills and the process of developing positive partnerships with elected officials,” Bellock said before asking the House to offer a warm Springfield welcome.
