Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) had no problem pointing out why she thinks an amendment is a bad idea.
After Rep. Linda Chapa LaVia (D-Aurora) used her point of personal privilege at the May 18 House floor debate to push for the Equal Rights Amendment to support women's rights, Ives used hers to counter the cause.
“While I appreciate the previous speaker’s remark, I’d like to point out that if we were to pass the ERA Amendment, everything she just spoke about and advocated for would be gone,” Ives said.

Ives said if it passed, breastfeeding rooms would be gone, as well as the women’s task force recently proposed.
“It would literally say there is no distinction or difference between the sexes, which is absolutely ridiculous and unscientific,” Ives said.
Ives said she has never been impeded by her gender in Springfield.
“Nor have I ever felt held back by my sex,” Ives said. “Women have more opportunities than ever before in our lifetime. Women complete more college degrees than men do.”
