Committee Reports:

7. a. Transportation—Ruth said the City is now considering Ride DuPage which goes anywhere in DuPage County. They attended a Finance Committee meeting a few weeks ago. The question is why is this happening now? The taxi companies do not want to participate under the current plan. The Transportation Committee wants the Ride DuPage plan, but prefers that the $1.40 fee structure remain. The fee might need to be raised to $1.75. Ride DuPage is handicapped accessible. The taxis are not handicapped accessible and the drivers cannot assist riders. Ride DuPage vets their drivers—e.g. drug screening, has no limits on travel within the county, requires 24-hour notice, and always has a person answer the telephone.

Amy distributed a flyer from the Park District about a program on Friday, April 6 from 11 a.m. – Noon at The Abbey focusing on Accessible Transportation Options and presented by a representative of the RTA.

b. Collaboration—Kristin reported that invitations are going out for the Collaboration event on April 26 from 8:30-12:00 at the Elmhurst Public Library. The speaker, Anna Walters, will focus on the topic of Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease. Kristin said her “hero” is Ellen who is our City of Elmhurst liaison. She asked that volunteers arrive at 8 a.m. Cathy commented that having this event annually is just wonderful.

c. Education—Cathy reported that the Elmhurst Walk-in Assistance Network (E.W.A.N.) will be the focus of the April 14 Community Conversation. The speaker will be addressing seniors but also others who are in need.

d. Housing—Kris contacted Mayor Morley for direction on when the open house at the M.F.S. office in city hall should be scheduled. A representative from D.S.C.C. will also attend the open house to offer an overview of that agency as well.
