Wood Dale FPD responds to 72 fires in 2016

Wood Dale Fire Protection District responded to 345 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the DuPage Policy Journal.

The calls in Wood Dale included 72 fires - 45 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 17 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $133,050 in fire loss - or about $1,848 per fire.

The department also received 273 false calls, including four malicious calls and 269 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Wood Dale FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 24 active employees and 42 retired or inactive employees, was $1,758,928 in debt as of May 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $24,430 for every fire in 2016.
