Winfield FPD responds to 24 fires in 2016

Winfield Fire Protection District responded to 159 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the DuPage Policy Journal.

The calls in Winfield included 24 fires - eight structure fires, six vehicle fires and 10 other fires.

In all, the department saw $417,200 in fire loss - or about $17,383 per fire.

The department also received 135 false calls, including four malicious calls and 131 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Winfield FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 10 active employees and one retired or inactive employee, was $87,473 positive as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $3,645 for every fire in 2016.
