Westmont FD responds to 30 fires in 2016

Westmont Fire Department responded to 701 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the DuPage Policy Journal.

The calls in Westmont included 30 fires - 11 structure fires, five vehicle fires and 12 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $832,860 in fire loss - or about $27,762 per fire.

The department also received 671 false calls, including 29 malicious calls and 642 other false calls.

The Westmont Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has active employee and retired or inactive employee, was $38 positive as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1 for every fire in 2016.
