West Chicago FPD responds to 100 fires in 2016

West Chicago Fire Protection District responded to 551 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the DuPage Policy Journal.

The calls in West Chicago included 100 fires - 46 structure fires, 17 vehicle fires and 34 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $644,335 in fire loss - or about $6,443 per fire.

The department also received 451 false calls, including 16 malicious calls and 435 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The West Chicago FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 39 active employees and 16 retired or inactive employees, was $1,731,213 in debt as of May 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $17,312 for every fire in 2016.
