Itasca FPD responds to 50 fires in 2016

Itasca Fire Protection District responded to 246 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the DuPage Policy Journal.

The calls in Itasca included 50 fires - 32 structure fires, six vehicle fires and 12 other fires.

In all, the department saw $288,350 in fire loss - or about $5,767 per fire.

The department also received 196 false calls, including four malicious calls and 192 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, three fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Itasca FPD #1 Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 24 active employees and nine retired or inactive employees, was $304,314 in debt as of May 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $6,086 for every fire in 2016.
