Women are invited to a free workshop focused on the dos and don'ts of self-defense from 2 to 5 p.m. on Aug. 10 at the Lisle Police Department, according to a press release.
The three-hour workshop for high school and college-age women is being presented by One Light Self-Defense. The police say the focus of the program is on practical matters related to self-defense techniques, such as safety awareness and avoidance tactics. Physical measures such as striking and and defensive techniques to be used against different grabs, chokes, hair pulls and bear hugs will be covered.
The training is also meant to dispel common self-defense misconceptions.
The Lisle Police Department, which will host the event, is located at 5040 Lincoln Avenue. Police ask that those interested reserve a spot by Aug. 9 by calling the department at (630) 271-4200.
