7. Other Action Items

A. Discussion -- Staffing

Chairman Krajewski informed the Committee members that due to a lack in staffing at the shelter, critical projects are not able to be worked on and some staff are being spread too thin. One such position to assist with staff workload is an Animal Care Officer. This is a hybrid position between an Animal Control Officer and an Animal Caretaker. This position has many benefits including the ability for that staff member to step in to either role as needed. The critical projects include a new database to replace the current end of life system and the Phase II renovation. The new database will link all parts of Animal Care & Control and streamline many manual processes increasing productivity. Chairman Krajewski and Administrative Veterinarian, Dr. Barbara Hanek, would like to move Kristie Lecaros into a project management role. An additional headcount will need to be hired to take on some of the Shelter Manager responsibilities. This new position will be an Operations Manager. There are funds in the budget for such a position.

8. Old Business

No Old Business.

9. New Business

Chairman Krajewski informed the Committee that the shelter is incurring additional fees for rabies specimen testing. These fees include the testing and the shipping to the U of I Laboratory. Many of these submissions are from Animal Hospitals/Veterinary Clinics. In the future, it would be beneficial to begin charging for certain specimens in order to recoup some of the cost. Also discussed was possible increases to municipal billing and adoption fees, however those will be discussed more in-depth at a later date.

10. Adjournment

Chairman Krajewski adjourned the meeting at 11:00 am.
