Premium financial companies will soon be allowed to send documents and notices electronically if a bill sponsored by Rep. Christine Winger (R-Bloomingdale) passes the Senate and is signed by the governor following House approval.
The measure, House Bill 3244, would provide the companies with the same correspondence leeway that insurance companies have.
Winger sponsored the bill following a request from a business in her community.
She said HB 3244 would expand the pool of businesses that can use electronic means to send notices and important documents while maintaining the legal effectiveness, validity and enforceability of any agreements in those documents. Previously, this would have required the documents to be sent in another manner, like courier or certified mail.
The bill is currently under consideration in the Senate.
