City of Batavia Board of Fire & Police Commissioners met March 23.

The meeting of the Batavia Fire & Police Commission was called to order at 5:06 p.m. Roll Call
Members Present: Nancy Vance, Chairman; Dennis Anderson, Secretary
Members Absent: Randy Zies, Commissioner
Guests: Gary Schira, Chief of Police, Joanne Miller; Recording Secretary
New Business
Hiring of Police Candidate
Chief Schira discussed the status of our 2 police candidates that were given conditional offers.
Motion: Having been advised that Nicolas Leonard failed part of the testing process I hereby move that he be removed from the list and determined to be ineligible for any further consideration as a police officer with the City of Batavia Police Department.

Letter Authorizing Appointment of One Police Patrol Officer
The Board acknowledges a letter from Mayor Schielke, dated March 16, 2017, authorizing an additional appointment for Police Patrol Officer to the Batavia Police Department. This authorization to appoint is as a result of the recent resignation of Officer Mark Skorup.
Elizabeth Webb joined the meeting at 5:10 p.m.
Motion: Having been informed that Elizabeth Webb has passed all testing and procedures required to become a Batavia Police Officer, I hereby recommend that we appoint her as a Probationary Police Officer for the Batavia Police Department effective March 27, 2017.

Authorization for this position was given by Mayor Schielke as a result of the vacancy created by the retirement of Officer Kevin Bretz.
New Testing Schedule for Police Applicants
The Board discussed the process for setting up a schedule to test new police applicants. Our current Police Eligibility List will expire on August 8, 2017. Chief Schira recommends the use of Stanard and Assoicates Inc. to handle the application process and the written test on June 17, 2017.
Motion: To approve the tentative schedule for police officer testing for 2017.

Motion: To approve the agreement as submitted with Stanard and Associates Inc. for police officer testing for 2017 and that the Chairman be allowed to sign it.

Illinois Fire & Police Commissioners 2017 Spring Seminar
Motion: Move to authorize and support Joanne Miller, Recording Secretary, to attend the Fire and Police Commissioner's Seminar in Decatur, Illinois, May 5, 6 & 7, 2017, and to pay for any necessary expenses.
