Young Lancers golf squad off to solid start

Golf

The 2016 season has been good for the young Lake Park High School District No. 108 boys' golf team so far.

The Lancers, with just three seniors on its 11-player roster, have a first-place meet finish and a DuPage Valley Conference victory so far in this year's campaign. Lake Park finished in first place at the Larkin Invitational on Aug. 17 at Golf Club of Illinois, and then beat conference foe Waubonsie Valley 148-153 on Aug. 23 at Indian Lakes Golf Club.

The Lancers fell to DVC rival Wheaton Warrenville South 148-158 on Aug. 25.

Lake Park entered the season with just one returning letter winner: junior Jake Dianovsky. Tyler Byrne, Liam Edgecombe and Mike Prell are seniors, while juniors Joe Abraham, Al Green, Walter Husmillo and Luke Tytus and sophomores Jordan Fischer, Zach Place and Tim Rainey round out the roster.

“Jake Dianovsky, Al Green, Luke Tytus, and Zach Place have had a strong showings so far this season,” Lancers coach Daniel Batka said. “We are also looking for contributions from sophomore Jordan Fischer and junior Walter Husmillo.”

GLENBARD SOUTH

With five seniors and four juniors, upperclassmen dominate the Raiders' roster this season.

Tim Weesner, Jake Filip, Austin Scholl, Dan Opem and Michael Santana are seniors. They are joined by juniors David Biscan, Greg Kozlick, Joe Keane and Nick Kotalick. The team's lone freshman is Jacob Cyrus.

“The Raiders are looking forward to a fun and successful season," Glenbard South coach Phillip Yudys said. "We take pride in working as 'One Team' and set goals to improve on a weekly basis."
