“This is why we need real leadership in Congress,” Khouri recently told DuPage Policy Journal. “As financial, economic, and security conditions in the world continue to change, we need leaders who will stand up, take action, and make tough choices that do right by the American people.”
Khouri explained that leadership in Congress also needs to be more diligent on immigration and national security policies, and that part of the Brexit issue is based on the people's concern over immigration caused by the recent terrorist organizations in the Middle East.
“The violence we are seeing as a result of these extremist groups is unprecedented and is increasingly more prevalent all the time,” she said. “The U.S. needs to be a global leader in combating terrorism. That's why we must put leaders in Congress who are unafraid of acknowledging the threat of terrorism and ready to make the right choices for the safety of Americans.”
On her campaign website, Khouri has devoted considerable attention to this issue as well.
“It is important the United States maintains a strong national defense,” she wrote. “One that utilizes common-sense diplomacy, intelligence, military and economic strategies. Our allies need to know that we are dependable again. The world is a better and safer place when America is the leading power.”
Khouri offered her own assessment of what Americans need to do to establish global leadership to combat terrorist threats overseas and on American soil.
“We need a global strategy that is based on an educated and informed assessment of potential threats we face, one that restores as a principal the objectives of deterrence,” she said. “Using the full spectrum of our military capabilities, we must maintain superior equipment, manpower and security systems to confront terrorist threats head on.”
Khouri also recognized how important it is to protect American troops who fight for national and global security, as well the need to support for their families.
“I will work to ensure that our men and women in uniform are supported and well equipped to respond to the threats to our nation,” she said. “In addition, the well-being of them and their families must be considered as they protect the well-being of ours.”
With regard to protecting citizens on American soil, Khouri argued that better immigration policies are needed.
“Like any sovereign nation, we expect our borders to be respected,” she said. “Additionally, we deserve to have them secure to protect our way of life as the protection of U.S. citizens is a basic function of the federal government. Unfortunately, because of bipartisan failed leadership in Washington, our borders remain porous with no real consensus in sight on how to resolve the problem. We are faced with a very serious national security threat that also perpetuates a broken immigration system.”
Her solution to these problems is doable with better leadership, she said.
“New leadership is the only way this problem is going to be solved,” Khouri said. “I will work across the aisle to create a realistic plan, deserving of the expectations of all Americans, that can pass the U.S. Congress.”
