81.7 percent of Wheaton Warrenville South High School's 2015 graduating class enrolled in college

Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) records show that 81.7 percent of Wheaton Warrenville South High School's (WWSHS) 2015 graduating class enrolled in college within 12 months of graduation.

The 2015 state average for students in public schools was 70 percent.

For WWSHS, its college enrollment rate marks an improvement over 2014, when 81.2 percent of its graduates chose post-secondary education.

The data, collected by the National Student Clearinghouse, includes two- and four-year colleges.

Enrollment at WWSHS in 2015 was 2,134; 510 (23.9 percent) were seniors.

Also according to ISBE, 63.9 percent of WWSHS seniors were "college ready" in 2015, versus an average of 46 percent statewide.

All students who score a 21 on the ACT qualify as "college ready."

Among high schools in DuPage, the class of 2015 college readiness rates at Naperville North High School (77 percent), York Community High School (71.8 percent), Wheaton North High School (71.3 percent), and Glenbard South High School (64.3 percent) and were all higher than at WWSHS. Hinsdale South High School (61.4 percent), Fenton High School (40.5 percent), Glenbard East High School (45.7 percent), Nashville Community High School (54.9 percent) and Lake Park High School (61.6 percent) were all lower.

WWSHS students did better on reading (57.4 percent) and English (74.5 percent) and worse on science (53.9 percent) and math (56.3 percent).

Only 41.3 percent of WWSHS students were college ready in all four subjects, according to ISBE.
