Republican candidate Heidi Holan recently blamed Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan for Illinois' budget woes.

Responding to President Barack Obama's statement, "We’ve been arguing since our founding over the proper size and role of government," to the Illinois General Assembly, Holan said that while she agreed with his statement, the President failed to lay the blame where it belongs in regards to the state's continuing budget crisis.

“Madigan’s efforts in have resulted in people being overtaxed.” Holan said. “Are we happy with the status quo? Shall we let our state’s expenditures continue unchecked? Now is the time to reform, stabilize and improve our economy. We cannot afford to wait.”

Holan pointed out the difficulties that families and businesses face as the state waits for a new budget. She also noted the stand that Governor Bruce Rauner has taken to defend taxpayers until the economic climate improves. While the Illinois legislature remains deadlocked, the state's debt increases while its bills remain unpaid. By Illinois law, the 2016 budget should have been passed by July 1, 2015.
