The Village of Downers Grove was recognized late last week for its commitment to implementing sustainable practices as part of its community culture, as the Suburban Branch of the American Public Works Association honored the village with its 2016 Sustainability Practices Award.
Downers Grove has incorporated input from the Environmental Concerns Commission, and used the support of its leadership in making green initiatives a part of everyday life among government agencies, residents and business owners.
The list of initiatives includes sustainable construction techniques, recycling, green-fleet practices, water and energy conservation, prevention of stormwater pollution and energy-saving efforts.
