State Rep. Patti Bellock (R-Dist. 47), author of the renowned SMART Act, offered her input on health care policy at the recent Healthcare Summit in Washington, D.C., hosted by Women in Government.
During the summit, Bellock met with other female legislators from across the nation to discuss the numerous national, regional and local issues surrounding health care. Bellock's landmark legislation, which reformed Illinois' Medicaid system and created new mandates regarding mental-health parity and MRSA infection control, has received national recognition.
Women in Government is a nationwide, nonpartisan, nonprofit group of female state legislators. There are over 1,700 female state legislators in the U.S., and the group works to provide networking and leadership opportunities, as well as host expert forums and provide educational resources to tackle public policy issues.
