Downers Grove and Genuine Parts Company/National Auto Parts Association (NAPA) are entering into a partnership to privatize the management of the village's Fleet Parts and Inventory Program as well as purchase parts from NAPA at discounted prices over the life of the contract.
The contract, approved by the village council on Sept. 15, is projected to save $51,438 in parts purchases for each of the next three years.
"This is a great example of the village's willingness to privatize operations where it is financially prudent, while still ensuring services to residents remain top-notch," Public Works Director Nan Newlon said. "Utilizing NAPA's enhanced capabilities will allow the village to shorten downtime for public safety vehicles, getting them back on the road more quickly to serve the community. Moreover, efficiencies created by this partnership will allow the village to reduce both the size of its fleet staff and vehicle count."
