Kotowski's property tax measure passes Senate

Kotowski

A property tax proposal co-sponsored by state Sen. Dan Kotowski (D-Park Ridge) passed the state Senate Wednesday.

The measure would help Illinois homeowners by freezing property taxes for two years.

"After speaking with thousands of people throughout my district, I know that meaningful property tax reform is the most important issue facing the suburbs," Kotowski said. "This relief will give hardworking families and seniors the opportunity to stay in their own homes and live in their communities."

Kotowski said the legislation is a means of compromising with Gov. Bruce Rauner on a solution that will lessen the tax burden for those in the middle class.

The legislation passed by a vote of 37-1-18, and will next move to the House for a vote.
