Downers Grove receives national award for 2015 budget.

The Village of Downers Grove recently received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation award for its 2015 municipal budget document.

This is the sixth consecutive year that Downers Grove has received the award, which reflects a municipal government's commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

The municipal budget document satisfies nationally recognized guidelines for effective presentations of budgets. Such guidelines are designed to assess how well the budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.

Downers Grove's budget was rated proficient in all four of the categories.

Judy Buttny serves as the village's finance director.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional organization with nearly 18,000 members throughout North America. Residents of the Park District elect a non-partisan, five-member board of commissioners to govern the district.

The Park Board determines the priorities and defines policies for financing, governance, operation and administration of the Park District. Board members are elected to serve unsalaried, overlapping four-year terms.

Working on behalf of residents are the five elected members of the Board of Park Commissioners. The board sets the priorities and defines the policies for financing, governance, operation and administration of the district.
