Sen. Tom Cullerton (D-IL) on Wednesday voted to ensure the municipalities in 23rd Senate District are protected from state funding cuts.
“Our local units of government rely on this funding,” Cullerton said. "They are expected to provide services ranging from police and fire to keep our neighborhoods safe to fixing the pothole down the street. I understand, as the former Villa Park mayor, that cuts to funding either means mass layoffs of police and fire or drastic hikes in property taxes in our communities."
Gov. Bruce Rauner has proposed a 50 percent reduction in local government funding. The cuts are expected to result in a $25 million decrease in funding to municipalities in the 23rd Senate District.
