Cook County alcohol servers, bar bouncers must be trained by July 1

Elkgrove

Cook County alcohol servers have been put on notice.

The new training law for servers in the county takes effect on July 1. The state is hosting a free training session for all county alcohol servers.

The new law requires all alcohol servers and bouncers in Cook County bars and restaurants to complete a four-hour Beverage Alcohol Sellers/Servers Education & Training (BASSET) class by July 1, or within 120 days of being hired after July 1.

Locations of classes can be found at www.illinois.gov/ILCC/basset.

To register for the BASSET classes, visit ILCC.illinois.gov and click on the "Calendar" tab.

If a server already has been trained between July 1, 2012, and July 1, 2015, he or she does not need to be retrained until three years after his or her previous certification date.
