A bill (SB 806) introduced by state Sen. Dan Kotowski (D-Dist. 28), which would require community colleges to develop specific associate's degrees for students who plan to transfer to a four-year university, passed the Senate with bipartisan support on Thursday.
The bill now heads to the House for a vote.
The bill would allow students who are accepted into a four-year university, after earning these associate's degrees, to begin their new studies as a junior.
“This legislation allows these families to potentially save thousands of dollars by not requiring their children to repeat classes they had already taken and paid for at a community college," Kotowski said. "By giving them this opportunity, they can go to school and achieve the American dream when they graduate."
