State Sen. Tom Cullerton (D-IL) is taking a forceful stand against cyberstalking.
Cullerton recently proposed House Bill 242, aimed at bringing Illinois' laws up to date with the widespread use of technology.
“Stalking in any form endangers the well-being of Illinois residents," Cullerton said. "The use of technology to stalk victims is a growing problem. In this digital age, we need to ensure our laws stay up to date with new technology.”
The legislation would cover the downloading of a program on to someone's phone that can track their location. Such an act, pursuant to the bill, would be classified as stalking.
HB 242 was reviewed without opposition by the Senate’s Committee on Criminal Law. The bill next moves on to the full Senate for consideration.
