U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) said on Monday that the National Park Service is providing a $1.14 million grant to help preserve historical sites in Illinois.
“Illinois is blessed to have so many areas rich with history,” Durbin said. “These sites provide an important glimpse into our state’s past, and we must support the maintenance and preservation of them.”
The funding comes from NPS' Historical Preservation Fund. The funding will be used to support programs that help preserve the state's 56 historical locations and sites.
The Historical Preservation Fund is a federal funding source that distributes preservation awards to states, tribes, local governments and nonprofits.
