The U.S. Senate's weekly Republican luncheon was hosted by U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) on March 19.
The lunch featured Illinois-specific products and a few of the state's more notable foods.
"As home to the busiest airport and the 10th largest economy in America, Illinois has secured itself as the transportation hub and crossroads of our nation," Kirk said. "In addition to boasting some of the best infrastructure in the country, we also are blessed to be surrounded by some of Illinois' most famous dishes and foods. I can guarantee that after today's lunch, many senators will wish they were able to call Illinois home."
Products offered this year included Green River Soda, Easter Bread Turano Bakery, old fashioned summer sausage from Wenneman Meat Company, Lou Malnati's Pizza, Real Urban Barbecue Baby Back Ribs, Eli's Cheesecake, Portillo's Hot Dog Kits and Portillo's Italian Beef Kits.
Each senator also received Green River Soda, Turano Bakery bread and Smoked Sausage Wenneman as a gift from Kirk.
This was the second lunch hosted by Kirk.
The lunch will be offered each Thursday while the Senate is in session.
