U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.) surprised Downers Grove North High School senior Peyton Sally Winters on Saturday with a certificate recognizing her recent appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy.
The presentation occurred at a recent varsity basketball game against Downers Grove South High School.
Roskam said it is an honor to nominate students like Winters.
“Nominating talented and ambitious students like Peyton to attend a military academy is one of the great privileges of my job," Roskam said. "I have no doubt she will make her friends, family and our entire community proud at the U.S. Naval Academy, and I look forward to hearing of her continued success on and off the basketball court."
The U.S. Naval Academy recruited Winters to play basketball.
Winters is a member of the National Honor Society, Tech Club and National German Club. She also ranks in the top 10 percent of her graduating class.
