WVHS English teacher wins A+ Award

Wvhs

Waubonsie Valley High School English teacher Liz Fay was recently honored as an A+ Award recipient by the Indian Prairie Educational Foundation and District 204.

Waubonsie Valley High School senior Autumn Massey, who first met Fay her junior year, nominated the English teacher for the award.

"Miss Fay completely flipped my world upside down," Massey said. "I had never had a teacher who was so charismatic and fun to be around."

Massey added Fay provided invaluable assistance to her while preparing for the ACT.

"Miss Fay stepped up to the plate like no other teacher," Massey said. "She squeezed in extra time and lessons, and taught me the grammar and English rules I needed not only to succeed on the ACT, but in my everyday writing."

Fay said she considers it an honor to teach Massey.

"As much as I was willing to give my time to her, she is someone who is going after what she wants," Fay said. "Waubonsie Valley is a place that supported her in doing that, and I love that I got to as well."

Fay also was instrumental in starting the school's Open Mic, which gives students the chance to exhibit their written material.

"I truly believe I wouldn’t be where I am without Miss Fay," Massey added.
