Al Larson, the president of the Village of Schaumburg, was recently appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2015 Transportation and Infrastructure Services Policy and Advocacy Committee.

"I am honored and proud to represent our area to discuss potential advancements in transportation," Larson said. "Transportation has always played a vital role in the development and vitality of Schaumburg, so I look forward to working with this committee to determine how we can continue to make investments in our infrastructure that will benefit the public."

The committee is tasked with developing NLC federal policy positions on issues involving transportation, including planning, funding, safety and security of public transit, streets and highways, aviation, railroads, and ports.

Larson is joined by several fellow Illinois appointees, including Karen Darch, president of the Village of Barrington; Mayor William McLeod, of the Village of Hoffman Estates; and Mayor John Noak, of the Village of Romeoville.

The Village of Schaumburg is the largest center of economic development in Illinois outside of the city of Chicago. It boasts more than 90 miles of bike paths and the Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts, as well as the 135-acre Spring Valley Nature Center and Historic Farm site.
