Former DuPage County Board Member Jerry "J.R." McBride was recognized on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives by Rep. Bill Foster (D-Ill.) on Tuesday.

McBride died of lung cancer at the age of 47 in October.

Foster said McBride was committed to serving the community and assisting nonprofits in the area. He asked his fellow lawmakers to reflect on McBride's life and the lessons that can be gleaned from it.

"J.R. was a public servant who put the needs of his community and his constituents ahead of politics and partisanship," Foster said.

Foster said McBride was committed to his family, consisting of his wife Becky and five children.

Foster also stressed McBride's willingness to work with both political parties.

"He knew the importance of cooperation and compromise," Foster said. "Mr. McBride recognized that we are all in this together and he was committed to working together for the greater good.."
