Wahl

Michael Wahl has been selected to receive the Unsung Heroes of Public Health Award, Rep. Peter Roskam (IL-06) announced Jan. 13.

Wahl, medical director of the Illinois Poison Center, was selected for the award by the Campaign for Public Health Foundation for his work on state public health initiatives.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be recognized by the Campaign for Public Health Foundation in this capacity, and I am very humbled by Congressman Roskam’s nomination,” Wahl said.

Last fall, Wahl also was nominated by Roskam for the Rock in the Pond Award for his work on public health issues affecting the state. He was recognized at a Jan. 27 reception in Washington, D.C.

Roskam said Wahl is highly deserving of the Unsung Heroes of Public Health Award.

"The first time you meet Dr. Wahl, you know immediately his commitment to public service and the health and well-being of others is what drives him," Roskam said. "He has an incredible record of achievement, and his dedication to the people of Illinois has made our communities better. The IPC provides key services to the community, loved ones and medical professionals and has saved countless lives."

Wahl said he will continue to work with Roskam on public health issues.
