The Villa Park (Illinois) Fire Department recently has been awarded a $432,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to upgrade the fire department's first response capability.
U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Villa Park Mayor Deborah Bullwinkel and state Senator Tom Cullerton (D-23rd) announced the grant.
Cullerton said the grant will help bolster the well-being of the community by providing the fire department with the necessary tools to respond to fires and emergencies.
"This grant funding will go a long way to improve the safety of the residents of Villa Park," Cullerton said.
Durbin said the grant money will be used to purchase a fire truck.
"Today’s grant (will provide) funding for one of a fire department’s most essential pieces of equipment – a new fire truck – which will be a great asset to the Villa Park Fire Department and the surrounding community," Durbin said.
The residents of Villa Park, Duckworth added, are deserving of the grant.
"The taxpayers of Illinois contribute more than their fair share to the federal government and I am pleased to see that crucial resources are coming back to the 8th District," Duckworth said.
