Judge denies bail for man accused of firing gun during domestic dispute

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Glendale Heights Chief of Police George Pappas announced today that Judge Joshua Dieden has granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for a Glendale Heights man charged with firing a gun into the air and then leading police on a high-speed chase. Elexei Garcia, 34, of the 100 block of Wrightwood Avenue, appeared in First Appearance Court this morning charged with one count of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer (Class 4 Felony) and one count of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm (Class 4 Felony).

Two charged with hate crime over "Free Gaza" graffiti incident

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Director of Public Safety Frank Giammarese announced today that two men have been charged with hate crimes for allegedly spray painting “Free Gaza” on an Israeli flag at the Bloomingdale Woodman’s grocery store last month. Tabshir Rizvi, 23, of the 100 block of W. Franklin Street, Bloomingdale, and Mohammed Faroun, 22, of the 200 block of Bode Road, Hoffman Estates, have each been charged with two counts of Hate Crime, a Class 4 Felony as well as Misdemeanor charges of Criminal Damage to Property and Disorderly Conduct.

Schaumburg man sentenced to 26 years for robbing cell phone stores

A former Schaumburg resident has been sentenced to 26 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) for robbing two cell phone stores at gunpoint. DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced the sentencing of Stephon Little, 31, who has since changed his name to Isa Al Ahad. The sentencing took place before Judge Joseph Bugos, who handed down a 21-year sentence for a Wheaton robbery and a 26-year sentence for a Hinsdale robbery, to be served concurrently.

Bartlett man sentenced to twenty-seven years for killing elderly mother

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced today that a former Bartlett man found guilty but mentally ill in the stabbing death of his mother in 2019 has been sentenced to twenty-seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. On April 12, 2024, Judge Daniel Guerin rendered his guilty but mentally ill verdict against Edward Mitzelfeld, 69 (d.o.b. 11/27/1954), formerly of the 700 block of Bryn Mawr Avenue, following a seven-day-long bench trial that concluded on March 22, 2024.

Aurora man denied pre-trial release over attempted murder charges

Jarvell Rainey, 21, of the 800 block of Oliver Avenue, appeared in First Appearance Court charged with one count of Attempt First-Degree Murder (Class X Felony), one count of Aggravated Battery – Discharge of a Firearm (Class X Felony), and one count of Armed Robbery with a Firearm (Class X Felony).
