District 181 concludes annual walking challenge with high staff participation
The District Wellness Committee announced on June 1 the conclusion of its annual District-Wide Walking Challenge, reporting a significant increase in staff engagement across Hinsdale Community Consolidated School District 181. Nearly 200 staff members from every building participated in the initiative, which aims to promote daily movement and healthier lifestyles among district employees.
Participants collectively logged nearly six million steps early in the challenge, with leading schools covering thousands of miles by the final tally. The Lane School secured first place with over 8.8 million steps, totaling more than 4,200 miles. Staff at The Lane celebrated their achievement with a breakfast from Citrus Cafe. Walker Elementary took second place, recording over 8.6 million steps and exceeding 4,000 miles; participants there were recognized with healthy snacks.
Individual champions were also recognized as part of Mental Health Month initiatives. Honorees included Allicia Smrha and Kathy McNeela at Elm Elementary; Lauren Miller and Scott Burtnette at Hinsdale Middle School; Julie Vladika at Madison Elementary; Taylor Button at Monroe Elementary; Carrie Fitzgerald at Oak Elementary; Anne Marie Bodrozic and Rebecca Swanson at Prospect Elementary; Bridget Cavato and Dan Ozga at The Lane School; Jen Pestka and Lynn Marquardt at Walker School; Lindy Phelan at Clarendon Hills Middle School (CHMS); and Jessica Schultz from the District Office.
Hinsdale Community Consolidated School District 181 represents DuPage and Cook counties through its nine schools: Clarendon Hills Middle School, Elm Elementary School, Hinsdale Middle School, Madison Elementary School, Monroe Elementary School, Oak Elementary School, Prospect Elementary School, The Lane Elementary School, and Walker School,according to the Illinois State Board of Education. The district enrolled 3,743 students in the 2019-2020 school year as an elementary school district serving grades pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade located in Clarendon Hills and DuPage County.

No teachers have more than ten absences per year.
