D181 Foundation celebrates student artists at annual art show in Hinsdale

The D181 Foundation hosted its annual Student Art Show on May 13, bringing together students, families, and educators at the Community House in Hinsdale. The event showcased fifteen pieces of student artwork from each school in the district, featuring a range of painting, drawing, sculpture, and digital art. Students whose work was selected were honored during a special reception and received certificates for their achievements.

The Student Art Show is an opportunity to highlight creativity within the district. Families attended alongside every art teacher from Hinsdale Community Consolidated School District 181. Superintendent Dr. Hector Garcia gave the welcome message for the evening. The event was led by D181 Foundation President and Board member Meg Cooper with foundation member Annie Flynn.

Hinsdale Community Consolidated School District 181 represents schools across DuPage and Cook counties including Clarendon Hills Middle School, Elm Elementary School, Hinsdale Middle School, Madison Elementary School, Monroe Elementary School, Oak Elementary School, Prospect Elementary School, The Lane Elementary School, and Walker School according to the Illinois State Board of Education. In the 2019-2020 school year it enrolled 3,743 students as an elementary school district serving grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade located in Clarendon Hills and DuPage County.

According to the Illinois State Board of Education, District 181 has a teaching staff that is predominantly female (90 percent women), with teachers earning an average salary of $94,227 before pension contributions; none had more than ten absences in a school year. The district's demographic makeup is reported as nearly seventy percent White students with smaller percentages identifying as Asian (15.4 percent), Hispanic (6.8 percent), or Black (1.1 percent).

Financially,the Illinois State Board of Education reports that District 181 spent $31,308 per student in 2020 for a total expenditure exceeding $117 million that year.

District data also shows strong attendance rates: only four students were classified as “chronically truant” during the same period—a rate far below the statewide average—according to the Illinois State Board of Education.
