Coley and Murphy named CCIW student-athletes of week for men’s swimming & diving
The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) has named Wheaton junior Ben Coley and Carthage sophomore Taydin Murphy as its Men’s Swimming & Diving Student-Athletes of the Week.
Coley received recognition in swimming after his performance at the 44th annual Wheaton Invitational. He achieved personal bests and set three conference-leading times: 49.43 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly, 45.74 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle, and 1:39.88 in the 200-yard freestyle. Coley won the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 1:39.88 and finished the finals of the 100-yard freestyle in 45.74 seconds. He also recorded a season-best time of 21.36 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle.
Coley contributed to Wheaton’s relay teams as well, posting a split of 44.44 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle—the third-fastest in program history—and a split of 48.26 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly, which ranked second all-time for Wheaton. His split of 21.28 seconds on the 50-yard butterfly relay was a team record. He swam on both the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays, each finishing second at the meet, helping Wheaton secure third place overall among seven teams.
Murphy earned diving honors following his performance at the Carthage Classic, where he won the 3-meter event with a score of 444.10 points—a mark that qualifies him for regionals—and scored 370.55 points on the 1-meter board. This is Murphy’s fourth CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week award this season. His efforts contributed to Carthage finishing second overall with a team score of 1,130 points.
The CCIW also provided an updated list of weekly honorees for men’s swimming and diving for the current season.
