Carthage freshman Josie Hosea named CCIW women’s wrestling student-athlete of the week
Josie Hosea, a freshman at Carthage College, has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week. The recognition follows her performance at the Hiram Terrier Round Robin event held last Sunday in Hiram, Ohio.
Hosea competed in the 160-pound weight class and finished first with a perfect 5-0 record. Her victories included her first career technical fall, achieved in 4:20 against Amelia Collins from Indiana Tech. She also secured decision wins over Jyla Johnson of Alfred State (6-1) and Cicely Cullins of Hiram (2-1), as well as a default win over Allydia Byard of Hiram at 4:44. Hosea completed her unbeaten run with a victory over Emma Hanrahan from Mount Union.
Hosea was one of two individual champions representing Carthage at the tournament.
The CCIW has recognized several athletes this season as Women’s Wrestling Student-Athletes of the Week. On December 9, Jasmin Ocampo from Carthage received the honor. Previous recipients include Shenita Lawson from North Central on November 25, Moni Griffin from Augustana on November 18, Viola Pianetto from Elmhurst on November 11, and Riley Rayome from North Central on November 4.
