Former Kankakee County Board member Mike Zenz called for Lisle Trustee Stephen Winz to resign after it came to light that he had threatened Lisle officers during his arrest in 2016.

Zenz said Winz’s conduct was egregious. He said his conduct is reprehensible and a misrepresentation of what the village is all about.

“The manner, language, and tone with which he addressed another department is not in alignment with the standards of conduct by an elected official,” Zenz said in an official statement. “It is actually quite to the contrary. Even though this took place years ago, it is disturbing to me that he did not come out with a statement regarding the situation.”

Zenz said Winz’s abuse of power “eludes an ethics violation of the highest degree.”

“Therefore as a resident of the village of Lisle, I request an inquiry into the event by the village board,” Zenz said. “Additionally, I request a motion from a member of the board and a second with the majority vote to censure Trustee Winz for his actions and verbiage. This action is well within the boundaries of Robert’s Rules of Order. I am sure it will be noted any action or inaction taken by the board.”

Zenz said he also hopes that Winz will resign from his trustee position.

“Additionally I beseech Trustee Winz that due to your conduct, that you resign your position as trustee of the village of Lisle as soon as possible,” Zenz said. “You have betrayed the public trust and mischaracterized the residents of the Village of Lisle in the most egregious manner.”

Winz in 2016 was arrested for disorderly conduct. He threatened officers after they were called when he was accused of paying with a fake $100 bill at a bar.

At the end of the incident, Winz finally left the Lisle Police Department at 4:56 a.m. and told the officers that black lives matter and he hoped “all the niggers kill you, I swear to fucking God I hope they kill you all,” according to a previous DuPage Policy Journal story.
