Top four CCIW men’s tennis teams advance to semifinals

North Central College, Carthage College, and Augustana College share the top seeds in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Tennis Championship and will advance alongside Wheaton College to the semifinals. These teams secured their quarterfinal victories at the Westwood Tennis Center in Sterling, Illinois.

“The top three seeds in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW)… will be joined in the semifinal round of the tournament by 25-time league champion Wheaton on Friday after all four squads secured quarterfinal wins Thursday at Westwood Tennis Center in Sterling, Ill.”

Semifinal matches are scheduled for Friday, relocated to Rock Island, Illinois, with adjusted start times due to the threat of bad weather. North Central, the top seed, will face Wheaton at 9 a.m. This will be followed by Carthage and Augustana at 11:30 a.m.

“Friday’s matches will shift to Rock Island, Ill. with new start times of 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. due to the threat of inclement weather.”

Quarterfinal results saw North Central dominate Elmhurst with a 4-0 win, while Wheaton came back after losing the doubles point against Carroll to win four singles matches, resulting in a 4-2 victory for Wheaton.

The afternoon session featured Carthage’s sweep of Illinois Wesleyan with a 4-0 victory, while Augustana defeated Millikin 4-1.

The upcoming semifinal will repeat last season’s matchups in the CCIW Championship.

“Friday’s semifinal round will feature two repeat matchups of last season’s semifinal round at the CCIW Championship.”
